Aurora Director appointed to ESSI Advisory Board

18 November 2025

Director of Aurora, Ruth Fain, has recently been appointed to the Advisory Board of the Earth∞Space Sustainability Initiative (ESSI).

ESSI brings together industry, academia, governments, international organisations, and the finance and insurance communities with the aim of ensuring that space continues to support the environmental, economic and scientific interests of current and future generations.

ESSI is working to develop Space Sustainability Principles that will establish Space Sustainability Standards through the British Standards Institution (BSI). The intention is that these standards will become global, transparent Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) space sustainability standards, recognised by the finance and insurance communities and internationally by policy makers.

Ruth brings more than 20 years of experience in environmental impact assessment and regulatory compliance to her advisory role at ESSI, as well as recent direct experience working with spaceport and launch operators in the emerging UK space sector. Recent projects have included undertaking assessment of environmental effects (AEE) studies to support spaceport and launch operator licensing, environmental management planning and delivery for spaceport development and operations and terrestrial and orbital sustainability strategy.

Aurora’s commitment to the long-term sustainability of space projects is one of our founding principles and we are looking forward to collaborating with the highly skilled, diverse team of people brought together to advance the Earth∞Space Sustainability Initiative’s goals.
