Food and Drink Federation launches Ambition 2030
On 23 October the Food and Drink Federation set out their new flagship environmental programme – Ambition 2030 – setting out the sector’s important role in tackling sustainability issues and providing a clear route-map to addressing the aspects of the farm to fork pathway most affecting climate change and nature’s decline.
Based around five pillars reflecting the areas where operators can make the greatest contribution to change, the strategy is supported by specific guidance and will be used as a benchmarking tool for evaluating progress across the sector.
Recognising that businesses will be at different stages of their sustainability journey, each of the pillars is split into ‘entry level’, ‘developing’ and ‘advancing’ actions, with ambitious plans that will affect real change, including:
- Net Zero – Contribute to a 50% reduction in emissions across agrifood supply chain by 2030.
- Nature Restoration – Contribute to the UK’s Nature Positive ambition to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030.
- Sustainable Commodities – Contribute to halting commodity driven deforestation and conversion by 2030.
- Food Waste – Halve per capita food waste by 2030.
- Packaging – Contribute to implementing a worldclass packaging recycling system in the UK, reducing the environmental impact of packaging.
Ambition 2030 is another example of the continually evolving global expectation for businesses to behave in a collective and responsible way to reduce carbon emissions, provide net benefits to society, and manage the risks of an increasingly uncertain world.
With over twenty years’ experience of developing, implementing and auditing environmental management systems and ESG strategy across the food and beverage sector, Aurora is well placed to support you with the development and delivery of environmental controls that will support Ambition2030.
